ASU Origins Project Features The Great Debate of Parallel Realities

Physicist Lawrence Krauss founded the Origins Project at Arizona State University in 2009 in order to bridge a gap between some of the greatest scientific minds in the world and the general public. The seminars have boasted noteworthy panelists such as Stephen Hawking, Richard Dawkins, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Bill Nye, Brian Greene, Freeman Dyson, and many more.

The Origins Project is celebrating its fifth year and has many exciting events planned throughout 2014. The first event to celebrate the anniversary was in February and was a panel discussion called Great Debate Parallel Realities: Probing Fundamental Physics. The panel featured Origins director Lawrence Krauss, Nobel Laureates Frank Wilczek, David Gross, and Brian Schmidt, Wendy Freedman of the Hubble Space Telescope, and Maria Spiropulu who worked with CERN at the Large Hadron Collider. About 2200 people filled ASU’s Gammage Auditorium, which is an incredibly large public audience for a talk about physics. 

For the first part of the seminar, each panelist was able to give a short lecture explaining their research interests. Though some of the most brilliant physicists in the world were on stage, the lectures were surprisingly easy to follow. No physics degree was necessary to enjoy the show, just a healthy dose of curiosity:
