Coronal mass ejections (CME) are huge eruptions of gas and magnetic field lines that come from the Sun. Earth’s magnetosphere protects us from damage, but they do interact and cause a spectacular show of light near the magnetic poles known as an aurora. Last week’s CME created an aurora that occurred as the ISS was passing overhead.
